Daycare Operator - APS Unipod Stirling Center

APS Unipod Global is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and highly organised Day Care Operator (Childcare Centre Manager) to lead the operations of the APS Unipod Stirling Center Day Care Facility. The Day Care Operator will be responsible for the complete management and administration of the childcare centre, ensuring the highest standards of child safety, wellbeing, learning, and care. The role involves supervising two Day Care Assistants, managing daily childcare activities, maintaining compliance with UK childcare regulations, communicating regularly with parents, and creating an engaging environment that supports children's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development.

The successful candidate will ensure that the Day Care Centre operates as a trusted, safe, and welcoming facility that enables student parents to pursue their education with confidence, knowing their children are receiving professional care.

Child Safety and Wellbeing
  • Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of every child entrusted to the Centre.

  • Maintain constant supervision of children throughout operating hours.

  • Implement safeguarding policies and child protection procedures.

  • Conduct regular safety inspections of indoor and outdoor play areas.

  • Ensure toys and equipment are safe, clean, and age appropriate.

  • Administer basic first aid when required.

  • Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies.

  • Maintain accurate accident and incident records.

  • Ensure children are released only to authorised parents or guardians.

Early Learning and Child Development
  • Develop age-appropriate educational and recreational programmes.

  • Organise activities that support physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development.

  • Conduct storytelling, arts and crafts, music, games, and creative play sessions.

  • Encourage language development and social interaction.

  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.

  • Observe children's developmental progress and communicate with parents where appropriate.

  • Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Parent Communication and Support
  • Build strong relationships with student parents and guardians.

  • Provide daily updates on each child's wellbeing, meals, activities, and behaviour.

  • Address parental concerns professionally and compassionately.

  • Organise parent meetings when necessary.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families.

  • Support student parents by offering a flexible and responsive childcare service where operationally feasible.

Key Responsibilities
Childcare Center Operations
  • Manage the overall day-to-day operations of the APS Unipod Day Care Centre.

  • Ensure the childcare facility operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with APS Unipod policies.

  • Supervise the admission, attendance, and departure of children.

  • Maintain a secure, welcoming, and child-friendly environment.

  • Develop and implement daily schedules and activity programmes.

  • Ensure appropriate child-to-staff supervision ratios are maintained at all times.

  • Coordinate the work schedules of the Day Care Assistants.

Staff Leadership and Supervision
  • Allocate daily duties and responsibilities.

  • Provide induction and ongoing training.

  • Monitor staff performance.

  • Conduct regular team meetings.

  • Promote teamwork and a nurturing workplace culture.

  • Ensure assistants adhere to safeguarding and childcare standards.

  • Mentor staff in best practices for early years care.

Health, Hygiene and Nutrition
  • Maintain exceptional hygiene standards throughout the childcare facility.

  • Ensure toys, furniture, sleeping areas, and play equipment are regularly cleaned and sanitised.

  • Monitor children's meals and snacks, taking account of dietary requirements and allergies.

  • Promote healthy eating and good hygiene habits.

  • Maintain safe food handling practices where meals or snacks are provided.

  • Ensure adequate rest and nap schedules for younger children.

Emergency Preparedness
  • Lead emergency evacuation procedures for the childcare facility.

  • Maintain emergency contact procedures.

  • Ensure all staff understand emergency protocols.

  • Coordinate responses to medical emergencies.

  • Conduct regular emergency drills.

Safeguarding and Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable UK childcare legislation and safeguarding requirements.

  • Maintain accurate child records, medical information, emergency contacts, and attendance registers.

  • Ensure all safeguarding concerns are managed in accordance with statutory guidance.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all child and family information.

  • Participate in inspections and quality assurance processes.

Facility and Resource Management
  • Ensure the childcare facility remains clean, safe, and well-maintained.

  • Monitor inventory of educational materials, toys, books, first aid supplies, and childcare equipment.

  • Coordinate procurement requests with the Accounts Manager.

  • Report maintenance issues promptly to the Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Assist in planning future improvements to the childcare environment.

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Maintain attendance records for children.

  • Maintain staff schedules and duty rosters.

  • Prepare operational reports for management.

  • Maintain medical and emergency contact records.

  • Record incidents, accidents, and safeguarding concerns.

  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, secure, and up to date.

Essential Qualifications
  • Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Childcare, Education, Child Development, or a related field.

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a childcare, nursery, preschool, or early years setting, including supervisory or management experience.

  • Strong knowledge of child development and early years education.

  • Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work with children from diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • Current Paediatric First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before commencing employment).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing a nursery or daycare centre.

  • Knowledge of UK childcare regulations, safeguarding requirements, and early years frameworks.

  • Safeguarding and Child Protection training.

  • Food Hygiene Certification.

  • Additional qualifications in child psychology or special educational needs are advantageous.
